Around the same time, the Chief Inspector's Office of the Metropolitan Police Department. Katagiri was summoned by Chief Inspector Masaki Tetsuya (Yamada Jundai). According to Masaki, the first trial of Yoshiharu Kondo (Yoji Matsuda), who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by injury by Michitoshi, was held, but a testimony revealed that Kondo had a clear alibi at the time of the crime. In addition, Kondo confessed that Michitoshi forced him to confess. Masaki urges Katagiri to choose between handing over Michitoshi's head or taking responsibility for the new full-time investigative team as a whole.
Katagiri goes to the scene of the incident Kondo allegedly committed. Freelance writer Maki Daigo (Hayashi Kazuyoshi) was pushed down the stairs by someone and died. Just before that, Kondo, who was arguing with Maki at an izakaya, admitted to the crime and confessed. However, the testimony of Yumi Fujishima (Akiko Hinagata), who runs a small restaurant and appears as a witness for the defense in the first trial, reveals that Kondo has an alibi. Did Michitoshi really force a confession? And is Kondo falsely accused?
Katagiri, who is investigating Kondo's background again, focuses on his previous job and goes to Shigeru Kuwai (Taro Suruga) in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. He asks for the disclosure of a document from 10 years ago, but it ends in vain. Katagiri, who has no other choice, gives Yu Amagi (Kiyuki Higashiyama) a bulletin and asks him to investigate the trends of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology 10 years ago. Then, on the same day that Maki fell to his death, it was discovered that Yokozaki Takashi (Hyuga Jo), who was the private secretary of Minister of Education, Muratomi, was also found dead. When I re-investigated, it turned out that I had met with Maki just before that. After all, Kondo was falsely accused, and Yokozaki caused Maki to fall to his death, and then jumped to commit suicide...? Then, Michitoshi's emotions explode, as he perceives this as a roundabout message from Katagiri about the flaws in his own investigation.
Focusing on Amagi, when Kondo, Maki, and Yokozaki's relationship was reexamined, they eventually found a point of contact. It's a collusion issue related to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology 10 years ago...
