The single mother Marianne Janbu is a supporter of a soft and dialogue-based upbringing, but it does not work quite as she wants, with two manipulative and overcoming teenage daughters. Wenche and twin sister Elsebeth have a nursing mother. As the sisters are not speaking, they try to negotiate who will look after the mother, through excel sheets and with their husbands as messengers. Gerhard has invited his son Victor and his fiancee to dinner. He wants to take up the fight with his in-laws about the couple's last name. Rose struggles with that cohabitant Richard has two children from previous relationships. This weekend, she also feels threatened by Richard's young ex-wife, who comes to visit.
