Esteban llega con Massiel al Albert Hall de Londres. Toda España está pendiente del festival de Eurovisión. El gran favorito es Cliff Richard y su "Congratulations". Esteban solo aspira a no hacer el ridículo cuando Massiel, por fin, sale al escenario.
Patrick Criado ("Antidisturbios", "La virgen roja") y Carolina Yuste (ganadora del Goya por "La infiltrada") protagonizan esta miniserie con aires de thriller que narra el azaroso camino hasta la histórica victoria de Massiel en Eurovisión en 1968.
"La canción" es la frenética historia de una epopeya musical y política en tres actos. Una carrera contra reloj, contada desde los implicados anónimos y las tripas del proyecto, por conseguir a toda costa un objetivo que haría historia pese a tenerlo todo en contra. Es también la historia del empeño personal de un hombre, Esteban, y de un país que respiraba libertad, pero todavía se resistía a los últimos coletazos del franquismo.
