Johnny Lancer has met Isham Hill, an adventurer he knew well when he lived under the name of Johnny Madrid. Isham Hill and two of his companions, Sexton Joe Huges and an Indian, were hired as goons by Charles Warburton. Johnny learns that the latter intends to buy cattle while prices are low, even this operation may ruin some of the small ranchers.
