Sam looks for building materials to make a stove, and Curly gives Amanda a gruelling lesson in dropping trees.

Sam tries to build a wind turbine out of scrap metal, and Hans makes a discovery that threatens the town's water supply.

The Devil's Club
The community faces fresh challenges, as Gary goes shrimping, Timbi searches for natural remedies, Curly tries to pull a tree down, and Sam heads into the wilderness to hunt bear.

Hans and Timbi take a giant step in realising their dream of owning a working farm, by constructing a large duck pen.

With the 'dark days' almost upon them, the residents of Port Protection use the last days of good weather and daylight to stock their freezers.

Amanda has a moment of truth on her first deer hunt, while Gary embarks on a buck hunt of his own that takes him deep into the Alaskan bush.

The residents of Port Protection scramble to finish the critical tasks that will carry them through the long, cold months ahead.

As winter arrives in Port Protection, the community takes advantage of some mild weather to increase their chance of survival.

After a series of failed hunts, 70-year-old Gary Muehlberger treks deep into the Alaskan wilderness in search of a doe.

The Long Road
Sam Carlson has his eye on spring and builds a new rain catchment system, while Mary Miller heads off into the woods on a solo ptarmigan hunt.

With the help of some locals, Gary works on the boardwalk leading to his house. Meanwhile, Mary tests her newly-acquired skills

The Porters prepare their farm for baby goats, but Hans has a shocking chainsaw accident. Amanda tries to extract the engines from her houseboat.

Tiny Terrors
Sam sets out to sea to catch octopus, while pesky vermin have been tunnelling under Mary's home and eating her salmon, venison and cat food!

The End of the End
The community pulls together to rebuild after it is hit by a violent storm, while Mary's poor health forces her to seek outside help.

Bob's wife, Linda, stands by her man and often does so by bursting into song. Their eldest daughter, 13-year-old Tina has a slight obsession with boys and zombies. Middle child Gene is an aspiring musician with a thirst for life. Louise is the bunny ears-wearing youngest daughter with an off-kilter sense of humor that makes her somewhat of a liability in the kitchen – and with the public.
