Regis Philbin left the popular daytime talk show Live with Regis and Kelly in November 2011. The show entered a new era as it welcomed 60 guest-hosts in a series of Live! with Kelly that aired over 10 months between November 2011 and August 2012. After this season it was decided that popular guest co-host Michael Strahan who had appeared 15 times through the series, would become the permanent co-host of the new show Live! with Kelly and Michael.

The new show aired between September 2012 and May 2016. In April 2016 it was announced that Michael was leaving the series, it was also announced at this point that a similar permanent co-host search will commence in a new series of Live! with Kelly in May 2016.
