But the Great Depression provides fertile soil for fascism to take hold, and between 1933 and 1935 Hitler's grip on power becomes absolute; The Nazi flag flies everywhere and the Nazi salute is compulsory.

The People's Community
From 1936 to 1940, Hitler's influence is felt in nearly all aspects of German life: at work, at church, in school and at home. This episode takes a look at the racially unified People's Community, the diplomatic successes of the Third Reich as Hitler violated the Treaty of Versailles, the growing anti-Semitism across Germany, and the turbulent events leading up to the Second World War.

Downfall and Legacy
Life on the Homefront and abroad is examined: from rationing and bereavement, the Allied bombing campaign, the Holocaust and finally, the fall of the Third Reich.
