Lili hides her struggles in letters home. While preparing for a prestigious competitive show, she has a fateful meeting with a new student from Japan.

The group visits Kit's sprawling family estate in the Lake District. There, Lili catches a glimpse of the pressures he faces as an aristocrat.

After an afternoon with Kit's prized mare, the group attends a lavish ball, but Lili is missing. When Kit learns why, he arranges a surprise.

Back in London and desperate to make ends meet, Lili drowns in work with no time to paint until Catherine suddenly appears with a lucrative proposal.

While Lili paints the portrait over and over again, their initial friction fades as Catherine opens up. Later, Lili overhears a startling confession.

As she watches him leave, Catherine thinks back on her childhood with Kit. Lili finds Peter brooding over his lack of talent, which soon boils over.

After her outburst, Kit disappears, leaving Lili wracked with guilt. Shin takes her out to cheer her up. Later, Catherine drags her to Astoria House.

Catherine stands up to Richard and stands up for her new friend. Thinking that Kit has been locked away, Lili rushes to Drunnheim Hall to rescue him.

Though it's her last chance to prove herself and stay in London, Lili abandons the final assignment and races to find Kit, who's absent from class.

During a weekend in Dorothy's hometown, Lili faces her feelings. When they return to school, she's shocked by the results of the final assignment.

While Lili sends a victory letter home, Kit faces the weight of aristocratic duty as Richard shares his worries about their role in the looming conflict.

Despite a sense of unease, everyone works on their final pieces as Kit attempts a brand new approach. Shin receives a confusing telegram from home.

Lili also receives orders to return to Japan. In the rain, she searches for Kit, hoping for one more chance to tell him how she truly feels.

As Lili prepares to depart, Peter also announces his plans to transfer. At their farewell party, Catherine arrives with news: Kit's ship is leaving now!

Five years later. After receiving devastating news, Lili gives up on her two loves: Kit and painting, and seeks solace in Shin. He proposes to her.

Lili stumbles upon an important letter and confronts Shin. After he reveals his strange sighting, they comb the harbour for Kit, hoping for a reunion.

Resolving to pursue art again, Lili and Shin break off their engagement. Meanwhile, Kit returns home. Will the two star-crossed lovers ever reunite?
