Makeup: A Glamorous History - Season 1

Season 1
Episodes

Georgian Britain
In this first episode Lisa explores the peacocks of British history: the high Georgians. This was an era when bling was in. Wealthy Georgians used their look to show off just how rich they were - and it took time, skill and money. The sheer glamour of the high Georgians was no accident, it's a style that owes its origins to the turbulent history of the age. The 18th century was a period of massive ostentation matched by staggering inequality - ending in parts of Europe with bloodshed and revolution.

Victorian Britain
In episode two, professional makeup artist Lisa Eldridge explores how the Victorians prized ‘natural beauty' above all else. Today, when Lisa is asked to do a 'no makeup' look she knows she's in for a lot of work: all makeup is about illusion, but the natural look is the ultimate magic trick - disguising its own existence.

Britain in the Roaring 20s
Lisa Eldridge takes us back to Britain in the 1920s. She explores how the look of the flappers reflected the new freedoms of the era and recreates a classic 1920s look.
