Father and son Martin and Roman Kemp set off on a journey in search of the legends, landscapes, mystery and history that have shaped the people and culture of Ireland. They begin their adventure on the south coast in County Cork, where they take to the water in kayaks to learn the story of Cliona, Queen of the Banshees, and travel to Spike Island, the former prison known as Ireland's Alcatraz, where they get up close and personal with its haunting history. They also try to unravel the mystery of one of the country's most important stone circles, and encounter a traditional Irish way of dealing with grief and loss that's being revived.

Martin and Roman Kemp continue their travels in the counties of Meath and Dublin. In the Boyne Valley they come face to face with an ancient tomb, where they encounter what might be the earliest depiction of a human face. At the Hill of Tara they meet an arch druid and have a profound sound bath, then explore a spooky ruin reputed to have once been the meeting place of Dublin's infamous Hellfire Club. Martin is also reunited with the owner of Slane Castle, who was a child when Martin last saw him in his Spandau Ballet days.
