He's soon accused of killing the man he suspected of killing his brother, and Matlock travels to defend him at the request of a Four-Star General. Fortunately, a friendly, young deputy sheriff, Conrad McMasters, is on Matlock's side.
Ben's certain that the two dead men, Ryan Bartell and Frank Hamilton, were part of a criminal conspiracy, and with the help of his new friend Conrad, sets out to prove it, after he calmed Matlock down, who was framed to have all the drugs in his car.
