Su Jiu'er (Shao Weishi) is the sassy daughter of a general. Due to her noble birthright as her father's legitimate daughter, her stepmother has been out to get her. While on the run, she meets the ninth royal highness (Shen Haonan) and they fall in love at first sight. 

The 9th prince disregards his arranged marriage to marry Jiu'er instead, and it further angers her vicious stepmother as well as Su Yue (Zhang Zhen) who was supposed to be the bride. At the same time, the empress has been pressuring them at every step... An imperial decree, a substitute marriage, a fate of good fortune, can the lovers live happily ever after?
