Mr. Queen - Season 1

Bong Hwan is a successful young chef, but he finds himself in trouble. After accidentally falling into a swimming pool while being chased by the police, he wakes up in the Joseon dynasty in a woman's body. And the body he is trapped in belongs to the future queen of all people. Bong Hwan must find a way to go back.

Bong Hwan's life as So Yong, the queen, begins in earnest. The rigidity of the palace wears Bong Hwan out, but he runs into the woman of his dreams. The problem is that she is Jo Hwa Jin, the woman King Cheoljong is in love with. Meanwhile, the Grand Queen Dowager and Kim Jwa Geun sense that something is off with So Yong. 

So Yong escapes from danger with the help of her cousin, Byeong In. Cheoljong becomes aware of the Kim clan's movements to protect So Yong and grows suspicious of her. Meanwhile, So Yong misses modern food and decides to make it herself in the royal kitchen. She decides that she must win over the Grand Queen Dowager's heart with food.

So Yong gets furious as she realizes it is Cheoljong who is trying to kill her. Cheoljong also assumes So Yong is planning revenge over him as O Wol, the court maid of Hwa Jin, goes missing after that.

Unwilling to be one-uped, the queen admits a secret that saves Concubine Jo Hwa Jin and the King's lives, but which puts her at odds with Queen Sun Won & Kim Jwa Geun. The resolution of that problem also spurs Kim Byung In to seek power in order to protect Queen So Yong. Meanwhile, the King regrets how he treated the queen and decides to trust her for the time being, despite advice from his allies. Later on, the Queen dances as rain fill the lake that should take Jang Bong Hwan's soul back to it's place.

Cheoljong saves So Yong when she jumps into the water to go back to the present day. Cheoljong starts to see So Yong differently and tries to start fresh with her. Meanwhile, So Yong is hopeless as she fails to go back even she drowns herself in the lake. She attempts every method to get in touch with the spirit that is in Bong Hwan's body. 

While in the kitchen, Queen So Yong suddenly faints, slipping into a coma. Bong Hwan is able to return to his original body to discover certain things regarding his own life. Worried, the King hurries to the Queen's side only for him to show some of his true nature when he's confronted by Chief of Justice Kim Byung In. Meanwhile, Queen Sun Won makes a move against Queen Dowager Jo. Fearful for her safety, the King agrees to let Queen So Yong's people take her to her family's residence to recover.

Learning she's recovered, the King visits the Queen at her residence. Though he wants to check up on her, he also wants to take advantage of the excuse to explore the place. While touring the residence with the Queen and her father, the King is shaken by a childhood memory that makes Concubine Hwa Jin nervous. Meanwhile, Queen So Young has started to slowly recover some of her memories and, with them, some of her feelings towards the King as well. As night falls, someone sneaks into the residence and a fight ensures.

King Cheoljong decides to become his Queen's anti-fan as she continues to surprise him when they tour the town and learn what the common people think of their leaders. Threatened by Kim Byung In aggressive confrontations, King Cheoljong doubles his efforts to find Kim Moon Geun's ledger and prove the Kim family's corruption. But his path is full of darkness, as Cheoljong's past rushes back to hunt him. Meanwhile, Mr. Queen has made herself indispensable to the Grand Queen Dowager while Concubine Jo Hwa Jin joins the Queen Dowager's team.

King Cheoljong and Queen So Young return to the palace. Queen So Young quickly gets to work in appeasing Grand Queen Dowager Sunwon's hunger. Meanwhile, King Cheoljong's feelings towards Queen So Young cause a rift between him and Concubine Jo Hwa Jin, who holds the key to taking out the Kim family.

King Cheoljong makes a move against both the Kim and Jo families by convincing Queen So Young to select three concubines from other powerful families. Confused by her growing feelings towards the King, Queen So Young decides to reclaim his/her identity by flirting with the new concubines. Things don't go as planned when unknowingly and unintentionally, she starts a letter exchange with the King. Meanwhile, as the King organizes a banquet for the Queen, the Kim family retaliates and Concubine Hwa Jin makes a bold move.

Dressed as Lee Maeng Sang, Queen So Yong assembles a banquet with humble ingredients compiled by the Royal Chef, thereby helping King Cheoljong recover from Kim's family sabotage. Unfortunately, things take a grave turn when Kim Jwa Geun and Kim In Byeong make a move against the Royal Guard, cornering the King into submission.

Cheoljong gets seriously injured from the explosion and goes unconscious. Kim Jwa Geun threatens So Yong again to accept his suggestion, and So Yong jumps into the lake to regain more memories. Meanwhile, Kim Jwa Geun believes that So Yong is no longer on his side as he finds out So Yong helped Cheoljong to save the banquet.

So Yong gets drunk and mistakes Cheoljong for Hong Yeon. So Yong starts avoiding Cheoljong when she finds out that they spent the night together. Cheoljong gets upset because So Yong treats him harshly. Meanwhile, someone comes to see Cheoljong and tells him that So Yong is in danger.

So Yong is impressed with Cheoljong, who listened and accepted her request after hearing the truth about the ledger from her father, Kim Moon Geun. So Yong decides to get her revenge on people who tried to kill her by forming an alliance with Cheoljong. Meanwhile, Cheoljong feels a little strange about his memory of what happened in the well. Moreover, Kim Byeong In joins his hand with the Jo clan.

After Cheoljong shares about the future of Joseon he dreams of with So Yong, she wants to help his future goals. Byeong In is hurt as Cheoljong and So Yong grow closer. Hwa Jin decides to tell Cheoljong the truth about the well incident.

Everyone including Cheoljong in the palace is happy to hear about the Queen's pregnancy. However, So Yong can't believe that she is pregnant and is not happy about it. Cheoljong is suspicious about So Yong's reaction and he tries to comfort her. Meanwhile, a fierce rumour also starts to spread with the news of the Queen's pregnancy.

Cheoljong leaves the Palace to protect So Yong. So Yong worries about him as he disappears without any explanation. Meanwhile, the Grand Queen Dowager regains her regency as soon as Cheoljong leaves his spot, and she brings back Kim Jwa Geun to assist her. Byeong In tries to persuade So Yong to reconcile with the Kim clan, but she rejects his suggestion.

So Yong runs away from the Palace to look for Cheoljong, and Byeong In chases after her. Byeong In tries to kill So Yong on the edge of a cliff. Meanwhile, the Palace is busy with the preparation of the enthronement ceremony. However, someone goes around the streets and spreads the news that the King is still alive. 

Cheoljong and So Yong plans to go back to the Palace in safety while Grand Queen Dowager and Kim Jwa Geun strictly restrict the entry. However, Bong Hwan's soul suddenly leaves So Yong's body when she is in danger. Will they be able to stop Kim Jwa Geun before the enthronement ceremony?
