With no signs of burglary and no immediate DNA match, the police were left with a disturbing mystery. Their inquiries began as the long route to the truth started in a case that became one of the most exacting and chilling contract killings in modern British criminal history.

Suspicion continues to point in George's direction for the murder of his ex-wife, Sharon Birchwood. George has debts, and phone records reveal that he made contact with an unknown number in the months before Sharon's death. The number leads detectives to Paul Cryne, an expatriate living in Thailand. Detectives launch a covert operation to obtain Cryne's DNA, which confirms he has been inside Sharon's home.
