The remains of a woman missing for over a year are found in the Dublin mountains and police suspect foul play. She is identified as Elaine O Hara but with no DNA, eye witnesses or a cause of death the police are concerned they won't be able to track down her murderer. But the discovery of two mobile phones discarded in a reservoir provide police with vital clues to identify the killer.

Episode 2
Graham Dwyer is arrested for the horrific murder of Elaine O Hara. He denies it and believes he's covered his tracks so well that there won't be enough evidence to charge him. But he has underestimated the police investigation. In interview he unwittingly corroborates the police evidence against and is charged with murder. But without a cause of death do the police have enough to convict him?

Reacher
