The "Nachtstreife" is back in Mainz. The fifth season accompanies Mainz police officers during their nighttime patrols in their fight against violence and crime. Every night, officers from the uniformed police, the criminal investigation department, and the highway police face new challenges: racism, violence in close social relationships, alcohol consumption, acts of violence, death, homophobia.

The ARD docu-soap provides an exclusive and unadulterated insight into the demanding work of the Mainz police and shows the people behind the uniform. How do they feel when they make the city a little safer night after night? Are there police operations that are particularly stressful for them?

The show features people who do their job out of conviction, who are trained professionals and want to come home healthy after a shift. The format is purely documentary.

"Nachtstreife" accompanies police officers from Mainz (SWR) and Hamburg (NDR, season 4).
