Myanmar's military government said the death toll from Friday's catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake surpassed 1,600 people in that country alone, with the number expected to continue to rise. It comes after a separate close call yesterday between a passenger plane and a fighter jet near Reagan National Airport, just two months after the deadly crash there that killed 67 people in January.
