A pair of brutal sexual assaults---one resulting in murder---remind Amsterdam of events he witnessed while working for a wealthy landowner in the 19th century. Meanwhile, Amsterdam gets better acquainted with Sara.

Keep the Change
While investigating a homeless man's death and a possible connection with one of the deceased's prized possessions, which he kept at a shelter, John recalls how his addiction problems in the 1960s landed him in a psychiatric ward.

Legacy
When a murder victim in Chinatown reminds John of a son he lost in the early 20th century, the investigation leads to a ruthless crime family who are related to his offspring, causing John to reflect on the consequences of his immortality.

Reclassified
The dying wish of John's first partner (Chris Bauer), who was shot in the line of duty, brings back memories of John's early days as a detective, and even provides clues about his search for mortality. But it also leads to run-ins with the Russian mafia.

Love Hurts
