Nigella Express - Season 1

Season 1

Episodes

Everyday Easy
Nigella focuses on evening meals as she prepares a no-effort family roast dinner of poussin with sweet potatoes, a quick after-work supper of crispy squid with garlic mayo, and a home-alone meal of mustard pork chops with gnocchi. Plus there's an almost-instant caramel croissant pudding to be eaten in bed after a night out.

Against the Clock
Featuring delicious recipes to squeeze into any time frame, from 10-minute flash-fried steak with cannellini mash, to a 30-minute three-course feast that includes juicy prawns and spicy dipping sauce, succulent scallops and chorizo with a side of chickpeas, cumin and sherry, and a decadent cheats' chocolate mousse.

Hey Presto
Nigella conjures up dazzling Italian dishes, from sensational pasta to an entire effortless feast. There's pasta pronto, linguine with a sensational raw sauce of lemon, garlic and thyme mushrooms; a steaming bowl of chicken cacciatore; Calabrian lamb cutlets in a spicy marinade followed by clouds of softly whipped amaretto syllabub; and marsala honey pears with gorgonzola. Plus Nigella reveals the secrets of her drinks cabinet.

Workday Wonders
This time, Nigella shares clever ideas for workday entertaining. For a casual supper she makes crab and avocado salad with a zesty Japanese dressing. A sit-down two course dinner calls for one-pot classic coq au Riesling followed by juicy jumbleberry crumble. Plus there's a three course crowd-pleaser of quick crostini with avocado and green pea hummus, followed by steak with lemon and thyme, with Eton mess for pudding.

On the Run
This time, Nigella focuses on food to be eaten on the move. Sesame noodle salad and a velvety pea-and-pesto soup make perfect travelling companions. She also prepares an entire express moveable feast for kids and adults alike, including marinated buttermilk chicken drumsticks, crunchy New Orleans coleslaw and deeply chocolatey rocky road bars.

Get Up and Go
This time, Nigella shares her favourite breakfast recipes. For a weekend brunch party she prepares frittata accompanied by Pussyfoot breakfast cocktails. A working breakfast calls for one of two possibilities: a trio of no-cook breakfast bruschettas with different toppings, or shortcut chocolate croissants. Plus instant pancakes with blueberry syrup, spicy scrambled eggs, and Nigella's ultimate wake-up-and-shake-up go-get-em smoothie.

Instant Calmer
This time, Nigella creates tasty comfort dishes, like a fast, restoring bowl of rapid ragu or a chicken pot pie to make everything better in an instant. For midnight munchies, there is doughnut French toast, or chocolate chip cookies to banish the blues no matter what the problem. Then there is the blueprint for when you are up against it, a warm soothing bowl of noodle soup for needy people.

Storecupboard SOS
This time, Nigella cooks for surprise guests using storecupboard items. She whips up a brandied bacon chicken on a bed of green leaves with golden vinaigrette followed by sumptuous standby chocolate and pear pudding. Then sure to impress the most unexpected house guests there's one-stop shop lamb, mint and redcurrant salad. Plus baked sausage with halloumi cheese and chocolate peanut butter sundaes for dessert.

Speedy Gonzalez
Nigella cooks Latin-influenced food the express way. Recipes include a standby sweetcorn chowder topped with toasted tortilla chips for a late-night treat, a quesadilla, and a dinner of 'Roqualmole' (Roquefort and guacamole) dip served with a cool cured fish ceviche, and margarita ice cream.

Quick Quick Slow
Nigella prepares fabulous dinner parties in advance. She makes a lamb, olive and caramelised onion tagine and a super-easy ice-cream cake. On the day, all that's left to do is make some couscous and a butterscotch sauce for the cake. She also creates maple chicken 'n' ribs, marinated the night before. The feast is topped off with a passion fuit and ginger trifle.

Retro Rapido
Never one to miss a trend, Nigella is remodelling her favourite retro recipes. Nigella's mother's favourite Sunday supper dish, ouefs en cocotte, is given a makeover. Fondue and cherry cheesecake are brought out when Nigella's schoolfriends visit. And, for the grand finale, there's a 50s inspired feast with goujons of sole with dill mayonnaise, simply dressed gem lettuce leaves and a crepe Suzette that (literally) sets the room alight.

Razzle Dazzle
It's party time at Nigella's, and she's putting on the razzle dazzle. Nigella's food is all prepared in advance, so she's still got time to put her lipstick on. Recipes include potato cakes, smoked salmon crudites, crab and avocado wraps, red pepper houmous, sticky sausages and white chocolate mousse served in shot glasses.

Season's Eatings
Forget the big day - the entire month of December is laden with fine food at Nigella's place. There's a 'holiday hotcake', served for the grown-ups with lashings of eggnog. There are sweet spiced peaches and frothy snowball cocktails. For guests to take home, there's chocolate and pistachio fudge. Even the most seasoned nibbler will be delighted by spicy popcorn, and dinner is a glazed gammon and roasted butternut squash.
