A child who's been found wandering the streets late at night doesn't want to tell veteran officer Emma who he is. Classically trained singing officer Joe contends with boozed-up Brightonians, including a woman who's reported to have downed a drink and got behind the wheel of a car.

DCI Carl Morck is a brilliant cop but a terrible colleague. His razor-sharp sarcasm has made him no friends in Edinburgh police. The department is a PR stunt, there to distract the public from the failures of an under-resourced, failing police force that is glad to see the back of him.
