Success
Nine years into an unhappy marriage, Aurore has left her family and gone to Paris. There, her ambitions of becoming a writer are fuelled.

Conflict
Aurora Dudevant changes her name to George Sand, and achieves literary success in Paris.

Trial
George's troubled marriage to Casimir Dudevant has now degenerated beyond all hope of repair.

Prelude
George meets the young composer Chopin, and is soon determined to know him better.

Sonata
George's relationship with Chopin has settled down. However her growing children cause new problems in her life.

Resolution
France is in political turmoil and George's behaviour and beliefs make her notorious.
