At Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, an engaging, funny and dedicated team of nurses reveal the realities of life on the ward. Paediatric nurse Mahbuba treats a girl with a brain tumour.

Episode 2
Paediatric nurse Mahbuba deals with a baby who can't breathe, while Rebecca treats a deaf cardiac patient and military nurse Scott cares for a struggling asthmatic.

Episode 3
Renal nurse Neil treats a 19-year-old whose kidney transplant is failing. Matron Hazera responds to two emergencies and on the surgical ward, Kat cares for a man recovering from a bowel cancer operation.

Episode 4
In Queen Alexandra Hospital's Critical Care Unit, one of Advanced Nurse Practitioner Caroline's patients is deteriorating rapidly. George, who had a heart attack three days ago, has a dangerous build-up of fluid on his lungs. She decides the only way to save his life is to put him on a ventilator, but it's not without risks; this could also cause his heart to stop. Caroline must make a very difficult call to George's wife to explain the perilous situation.

Renal nurse Neil treats a dialysis patient with a blood clot on the brain, Midwife Amy delivers a baby with a falling heart rate and Matron Hazera's [pictured] last shift before her holiday isn't going to plan.

Episode 6
In Paediatrics, Mahbuba investigates why a two-year-old has such a high temperature, Cardiac nurse Rebecca prepares for an emergency admission and Kat cares for a woman after breast cancer surgery.

Episode 7
Paediatric nurse Mahbuba is called to an emergency – a toddler gasping for breath; Rebecca [pictured] cares for a patient with chronic heart failure and Military Nurse Scott treats a man after a heart attack.

Episode 8
Cardiac nurse Rebecca cares for a man whose organs are failing; Midwife Amy delivers a high-risk mother's late baby, and in Critical Care, Caroline treats a patient recovering from a month-long coma.

Episode 9
In Critical Care, Caroline treats an unvaccinated Covid patient who's been in a coma for two weeks; Matron Hazera assesses a deep tissue injury and Kat cares for a man in pain after kidney stone surgery.

Episode 10
Matron Hazera is called to save a person standing on the edge of a building, nurse Kat treats a woman with suspected Ovarian cancer and senior nurse Neil's young renal patient needs gruelling dialysis.
