High school student Touya Senji, who grew up constantly being compared to his talented older brother and harboring an inferiority complex due to his own lack of talent, encounters transfer student Haito Luo Buffett amidst rumors of a serial killer. Haito is a "reincarnated person" who has awakened his talent through the "Branch of Reincarnation," which allows him to gain the talent of his past life by cutting off his own throat. However, the Branch of Reincarnation is a double-edged sword that revives not only the talents of great people but also the talents of criminals. Witnessing Haito's battle with the deranged serial killer Albert H. Fish, Touya, driven by his own thirst for talent, reaches for the forbidden power himself. The boy, burdened by inferiority complex and jealousy, steps into a dangerous destiny in order to make his own talent blossom.

Having blossomed his talent, Touya is given his first assignment by John V. Neumann, the commander of the Great Men's Grove: to eliminate the evil wanderer, John W. Gacy. He heads to the school to pick up Haito. He takes Haito, who was sleeping surrounded by training equipment in the gymnasium, and they venture into the forest where Gacy is hiding. The plan was for Touya to gain experience by defeating Gacy, a murderer known as the Killer Clown, but Haito accidentally kills him with a single blow. Nevertheless, the job is successfully completed. However, they find themselves being pursued by a mysterious group in black combat suits who had been secretly observing the battle while pursuing Gacy...

Having confronted a mysterious black mist resembling a double pupil, I. Newton and Hiroshi Funasaka return to the Forest of Great Men to seek information from John V. Neumann. While discussing with Touya, Haito, and other members of the Forest of Great Men, P. Picasso paints a picture that seems to embody the mysterious black mist he shouldn't have seen. Upon seeing the picture, Neumann and A. Einstein are reminded of past events and are unable to react properly. Suddenly, the monitor is filled with the pattern of a double pupil, and a cheerful male voice, as if meeting an old friend, begins to be heard, directed at Neumann, Einstein, and Picasso. The voice belongs to Xiang Shanyu, the strongest circus performer with the greatest talent in martial arts and one of the original members of the Forest of Great Men...

Hiroshi Funasaka suspected Touya Senji of being a spy and pointed his gun at him, but lowered it with the words, "I believe in you." Having become a wanderer, Hiroshi Funasaka, while gaining talent, was losing his sense of being human. Joining the Grove of Great Men and being dispatched to various battlefields by Commander John V. Neumann, he had no complaints about trampling and performing well as a soldier, but he felt boredom and a mysterious unease. However, he felt excitement during his battle with Hans U. Rudel of the Criminal Army, and through the dialogue between two immortal beings, Funasaka realized that what he desired was "a serious battle in which both sides would wear each other down," and he keenly felt the magnitude of what he had lost by gaining talent through the Branch of Reincarnation. Not for anyone else, but for themselves, with death as their ultimate desire, Funasaka and Rudel begin another deadly battle to settle their score.

Having received his talent from Funasaka Hiroshi, Touya arrived alone at the Castle of the Heavy Eyes. There, he found Xiang Shanyu, the leader of the criminal army, along with M. Dalmon and M. Nostradamus. In order to collect the talent of Xiang Shanyu, who is said to be the strongest in history, Touya challenges Xiang Shanyu to a duel. Touya is overwhelmed as if being toyed with by Xiang Shanyu, and despite Xiang Shanyu seeing through the true nature of his own talent, he begins to feel no hostility from Xiang Shanyu and begins to feel confused. While thinking of a way out and paying close attention to Xiang Shanyu's every move, Xiang Shanyu tells him that his older brother, Senji Seiya, was "a member who founded the Forest of Great Men" and "was the only person who was no less skilled than Xiang Shanyu, the greatest wanderer in the world." Touya is about to hear about a side of his brother he never knew...

Gaius J. Caesar, a spy who had infiltrated the Forest of Great Men and the strongest of the Five Tiger Generals, and Haito, in a drastically changed form, arrive at the Castle of the Heavy Eyes. Touya confronts Haito and is shocked by his drastically altered appearance, having lost his reason. In order to return Haito, who has become "the end result of someone who wanted to become strong at all costs," Xiang Senha hides M. Dalmon with Touya and instructs M. Nostradamus and Caesar to buy time. Nostradamus uses his talent to predict Haito's attacks and rewrite the future to avoid them, but even with Caesar's fighting power, they remain evenly matched and unable to break through. Finally, an "unavoidable future that cannot be rewritten" appears in Nostradamus's book of prophecies.

John V. Neumann, the commander of the Great Men's Grove, hacked into electronic devices worldwide and declared the "Great Human Project." Xiang Shanyu suggested that "their actions were manipulated by someone" and perished with M. Dalmon. Touya, Haito, and Yagyu Jubei Sankichi, who witnessed their final moments, were taken in and treated by Kitazuka Sai and Minami Nanki of the Special Self-Defense Force's Black Sharp Unit. The data left behind by Xiang Shanyu contained the truth about Senji Seiya's death, the events leading up to it, and information about the "Branch of Reincarnation" and the "Reincarnated Ones." Touya tried to cooperate to further analyze the data, but felt a distance growing between him and Kitazuka, who seemed to reject him. Conflicted and on the verge of despair after hearing Kitazuka's words, Touya remembered Neumann's words, "Don't turn it on outside the 'garden'," and turned on his cell phone.

Attacked by I. Newton, who was under the control of F. Nightingale, A. Einstein was injured in his right leg and unable to stand. Newton temporarily regained his senses, but fearing that he would further harm Einstein, he decided to stay with Nightingale. After parting ways with Newton and escaping the scene, Einstein fled, leaving traces everywhere in search of allies who were not under Nightingale's control, and succeeded in reuniting with Touya, who understood the meaning of his escape. Einstein, who had lost consciousness, woke up at the base of the Black Elite Unit and told Touya, Haito, and Yagyu Jubei Sankichi about what he had faced, and tried to take action to rescue Newton and the others, but...

With Haito gone and Touya and Yagyu Jubei Sankichi in pursuit, A. Einstein and his group were searching for the "Seed of Reincarnation," the heart of all Reincarnated beings. They were gathering information from stray Reincarnated beings rampaging around the world, defeating them, and selecting targets to collect the Branches of Reincarnation. In Paris, they were facing formidable opponents such as Napoleon B, who used the Arc de Triomphe as his base and summoned the ghosts of soldiers who died in World War I from their graves to fight, and Rachel L. Carson, who was rarely seen at sea and whose movements were difficult to ascertain accurately. However, the Reincarnated being group "Floating Weeds," left behind by Xiang Senyu, joined their forces. But among them was a mysterious figure in a black suit whose identity was unknown to anyone present.

Alan Smithee, the creator of the "Branch of Reincarnation" and an unmemorable, transdimensional being, shows Haito and Yagyu Jubei Sankichi memories from before they became reincarnated beings. Haito is devastated to learn of his father's death, and Jubei is enraged to learn of Haito's past actions. Haito tries to offer his own head to Jubei, but against his will, he is possessed by a mysterious black shadow. The duel between Haito and Jubei begins, and Touya watches in stunned silence, unable to comprehend what is happening. Haito unleashes a series of powerful attacks, but his blade never reaches Jubei, who seems to see through everything. Jubei, as a swordsman, is dominating Haito, but the wound he received from Gaius J. Caesar reopens...

Albert Einstein confronts Albert, a wandering Einstein who claims to be Einstein but shouldn't exist, and Isaac Newton, who has been subjugated by Florence Nightingale. Albert suggests to Einstein that Nightingale is dormant and completely defenseless, and challenges him by saying that he will reveal the coordinates of Nightingale's headquarters if he can inflict even one wound on her. Seizing this golden opportunity, Einstein clashes with Gottfried V. Berlichingen and others. Against Albert, who displays unfathomable talent, and Newton, who attacks relentlessly due to his subjugation, Berlichingen tries to come up with a way out...

Armed with the swordsmanship, patience, and bluffing he learned from Jubei, he endures, but even the "immortality" he inherited from Funasaka Hiroshi is beginning to show its limits, and he is being held together only by willpower. Haito takes advantage of a momentary lapse in Touya's guard and inflicts a fatal wound, then leaves the scene, telling Touya never to get involved again. However, Touya still gets up and struggles to defend against the fierce slashes that Haito unleashes once more. He is cut down many times, but he stabs the Branch of Reincarnation into his neck and regenerates with his "immortality," refusing to give up and getting back up, but finally he reaches the limit of his immortality, and the final duel begins.
