On the premiere episode of Pizza Wars: Quest for the Perfect Slice, host Nicole Russell is meeting up with native Brooklynites Adam Richman and Frank Pinello to explore the past, present, and future of Brooklyn pizza. First, Nicole and Frank visit Luigi's Pizza in Park Slope, where second-generation owner Giovanni Lanzo is keeping his family's legacy alive after 50 years of business. Next, Nicole stops by South Brooklyn newcomer Lucia Pizza of Avenue X, before meeting Adam Richman at Williamsburg's wildly popular L'Industrie Pizza. From traditional, old-school slice shops, to innovative, chef-driven pizzerias, Brooklyn remains a true paradise for pizza lovers in 2023.

From $1 slice pioneers like 2 Bros and Champion Pizza, to regular customers digging into their pockets for an extra 50 cents, Nicole is speaking with real New Yorkers who survive off of the slice day in and day out.

The restaurant's owner, Mark Iacono, has become a larger-than-life figure in the New York pizza scene—and a mentor to Pizza Wars host Nicole Russell. In this rare, intimate interview filmed in Lucali's backyard, Iacono tells Nicole and Scott Wiener how he took inspiration from legendary Brooklyn pizza-maker Domenico De Marco of DiFara, and ultimately created one of the most sought after pies on the planet. And later, Iacono teaches Nicole and comedian Chris Distefano how to make Lucali's legendary pizza during a special, hands-on cooking tutorial.
