The Arnolds live in East Dulwich and have a small son, with another baby on the way as well. They desperately want planning permission to open up their kitchen and turn their home into the perfect family friendly living space. However this involves filling in their side return - something that might adversely affect their neighbours' outlook. They have a budget of 60 thousand pounds - how much extra space will that buy them?

It is not just families with new babies who need more space. More and more young adults are financially unable to fly the nest and need extra room in their parents' homes. Ed White wants to create a suite for daughter Hannah. Ed's got an impressive model railway, which runs like clockwork - but when it comes to planning approval, everything is coming off the rails.

The Doves want a bigger kitchen and an extra bedroom. They don't envisage any problems but planner Carol Boydell is all set to reject their application. Then the Doves come up with a scheme that turns their situation around. Watch out for little Ian's dance of pure joy!

Paul and Paula Carmichael live in a popular Coventry suburb. They want an open-plan kitchen where son Dexter can play as mum Paula prepares dinner. It sounds simple but once again the planners are worried about what the neighbours will say.

By the end of the show there's been a total transformation - but have Paul and Paula ended up with the space they longed for?

If all goes to plan, Joel will be turning over an astonishing £80,000 per annum.

Peter Varley wants a perfect seaside retreat while Greg and NicolaThompson want an extra bedroom and a cinema room - will either of them get the dream homes they hope for? Peter expects to shell out £120,000 on his building works, and the Thompsons have set aside £70,000. Will it ultimately prove to be money well spent?
