According to Elżbieta, on the fateful day when the crime was committed, Anna was supposed to inform her husband and parents that she wanted a divorce. This gives Janonis a very solid motive. Anna's lover, Olgierd Woliński, tries to call her again, worried. He does not understand why he has not contacted her for several days. He eavesdrops on a telephone conversation of Hanka Pietrewicz, a journalist from a local newspaper, who loudly boasts about her article about the murder of the forester's family.
