Season 1
Brian becomes a father with Lindsay and deals with his father's death; Justin falls in love with Brian and comes out to his parents; Michael deals with his long-unrequited feelings for Brian by dating Dr. David; Ted falls for Blake, a meth addict; Lindsay and Melanie become first-time parents; Emmett tries to go straight.

Season 2
Brian becomes a hero when he saves Justin from a traumatic gay bashing; Justin begins art school and starts a gay comic book with Michael; Michael enters a relationship with Ben, an HIV-positive man; Emmett has a relationship with a wealthy man; Lindsay and Mel get married; Ted starts his own business.

Season 3
Brian works on the mayoral campaign of a conservative police chief which jeopardizes his relationship with Justin; Michael fathers a baby with Mel and he and Ben adopt Hunter, an HIV-positive teen; Emmett and Ted begin a relationship that falls apart due to Ted's drug addiction.

Season 4
Brian starts his own ad agency and confronts testicular cancer; Michael and Ben get into a custody battle with Hunter's mother and get married in Canada; Justin and Michael's comic book takes off; Ted completes rehab and starts seeing Blake again; Emmett begins seeing a pro football player; Melanie and Lindsay separate.

Season 5
The gang join together to fight against Proposition 14, an anti-gay initiative; Brian and Justin contemplate taking their relationship further; Michael gets into a custody battle with Mel over his daughter and is almost killed when Babylon is bombed during an anti-Proposition 14 event; Mel and Lindsay reunite; Ted confronts a mid-life crisis; Emmett gets fired over his relationship with Drew.
