Sa Raison d'Être (2008)
In 1981, Bruno, Isabelle and Nicolas are 20 years old. It's the time of their first loves. But it's also the time of AIDS…
They're carefree, full of hope and enthusiasm… They dream of love, but it's death that strikes first, as Isabelle is killed in a terrorist attack. Her fiancé Bruno is seriously injured. Nicolas, who must somehow come to terms with his sister's death, decides to become Bruno's co-parent in raising Jérémy, Isabelle's child.
Although Nicolas is gay, Bruno isn't. But they form a relationship that tests the boundaries of friendship and love. Surrounded by their families, friends and Jérémy, together they must face the opinions of others and man's stupidity.
As politicians go to war on terrorism, a new, even more furtive enemy rears its head: AIDS. Nicolas sees his friends dying around him. Meanwhile Bruno, who had a blood transfusion after his accident, discovers he's HIV-positive. His days seem numbered as the fear of full-blown AIDS hangs over his head.
Nicolas, private secretary to a right-wing minister, becomes more and more committed to the fight against the hypocrisy surrounding AIDS. Thanks to tritherapy which gives him some hope, Bruno learns to live again and starts making plans for the future…
