The first two episodes feature Margaret Pomeranz as she interviews Australian director Stephan Elliot, who talks about his recent film Swingin' Safari and the challenges faced by the filmmaker and also takes a look at Best Foreign Film Oscar nominee The Square and Afghanistan set war drama 12 Strong starring Chris Hemsworth. On the small screen, Graeme takes a look at a new documentary on National Geographic, Jane which explores the legacy of scientist Jane Goodall and ABC's Harrow and Here and Now on showcase.

To wrap up the first episode, Margaret and Graeme share their thoughts on this year's Oscar nominees and Margaret reveals whether she believed there were any five-star contenders.
