Seeking Satoshi: The Mystery Bitcoin Creator - Season 1

Season 1
Episodes

Freedom Money
Podcaster and journalist Gabriel Gatehouse sets out to solve the biggest mystery in tech: who is Satoshi Nakamoto, the elusive creator of Bitcoin? But Gabriel realises in fact he's on a much bigger story. Is Bitcoin part of a conspiracy to end democracy and transform the world? Gabriel's journey takes in cryogenic freezing, old hackers on Caribbean islands, gun-toting libertarians who want to break free from the rest of the US, and gene editing in a private city state. This is a world of futuristic ideas that were once the preserve of geeks and misfits but, with Trump and Musk now in the White House, are increasingly mainstream. Bitcoin emerged in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, invented by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. Three years later, Satoshi disappeared. Gabriel's search begins with an unexpected tip-off. He heads to a mega-gathering of Bitcoin enthusiasts in Miami where Bitcoin's political ambitions are revealed. On a Caribbean island, two ageing hackers warn Gabriel to steer clear. Gabriel continues his search in the libertarian heartland of New Hampshire. Libertarians love Bitcoin because they see it as a way to starve governments of taxes. But they're interested in much more than digital money. They want to completely change the world - get rid of democratic nation states, colonise the cosmos and merge humans with machines.

We Are All Satoshi
Podcaster and journalist Gabriel Gatehouse wants to solve the biggest mystery in tech: who is Satoshi Nakamoto, the elusive creator of Bitcoin? The search continues with a vision of what a Bitcoin future could look like as Gabriel travels to a private city state off the coast of Honduras - a 'burbclave' - a community where tech bros rule. Fuelled by crypto cash, these people are building an alternative world, free from governments, and an incubator for a new world order. Is this the future that Satoshi envisioned? The search for Satoshi leads to a cryogenic freezing lab where one suspect hopes to conquer death in the hope of being revived in the sci-fi future of their dreams. Once upon a time such a world felt like fantasy. Not anymore. The geeks and misfits became the tech titans of Silicon Valley and now they're in charge.
