Andrei Klimchak, a recent graduate of the Militia School and nephew of a high-ranking Interior Ministry official, is placed at the disposal of the freedom-loving and unyielding Captain Sharonov, nicknamed Sheriff. From the very beginning, the young lieutenant annoys the Sheriff with everything, but together they have to investigate the murder of banker Kushakov. The head of the bank's security service, Bezborodov, who reported the murder of the chief, also claims that his apartment was robbed. But the examination establishes that the banker was killed by a professional killer, and the thief may have become only a casual witness to the tragedy.…
