Riot police officer Smiley returns to a reformed police department after the charges against him in a shooting case are dropped. The new unit must be run smoothly, and all major investigations must be passed on to the system. But when Smiley gets on the trail of a notorious mastermind known only as "The Viper," he decides to start his own investigation.

After Lea's murder, Smiley ignores his orders and hunts down the culprits. The clues lead him to the Players Club, where he discovers the Viper's drugs and meets Camilla, with whom he develops a relationship. Meanwhile, Louise fights for respect in the department, but the unrest puts her in danger. When she is close to giving up, she is visited by Lisa Dahlin from the State Attorney's Office, who wants to use her to bring Smiley down.
You Are All Dead Men
The riot squad's hunt for the Viper is complicated by Kourosh's arrest. But when they plant a wiretapped phone on him, it leads them to Edmond, who turns out to be a capable opponent. Louise's nightly investigation into the jet-setters' coke consumption leads her to Edmond's little brother.

The unrest is divided by fear after the robbery. Khaleghi threatens their families, while Dahlin tries to get them suspended. Smiley is close to giving up, but then Louise discovers a connection between their two cases. They intercept Khaleghi's next shipment, and during an operation Smiley kills Edmond. Smiley lets Camilla go and is recruited into a new, uninhibited unit. The Khaleghi family swears revenge.
