This opening edition charts the first 14 days of Operation Fincham, as the enquiry to find the missing girls was called. The programme explores the circumstances of the disappearance, the desperate hunt for the two friends, and how the true horror of the crime was revealed as local man Ian Huntley became the prime suspect.

Episode 2
Examining the days after college caretaker Ian Huntley and his girlfriend Maxine Carr were taken in to help police with their enquiries. This episode also charts the discovery of two items of the girls' clothing in the caretaker's lock-up, and the tragic moment Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman's bodies were found before the race to secure vital forensic evidence began.
