John Cooper is a seasoned Los Angeles cop assigned to train young rookie Ben Sherman. And although Cooper's harsh, tell-it-like-it-is approach often leaves Ben questioning whether he has what it takes to be a cop, he remains on the force.

Salinger, distracted by speed racers, crashes his car. The racers steal his gun and he gets a 12 hour deadline to find it before the thing becomes official. In the search, something bigger is found.

When jewelry thieves begin robbing Bel Air homes, Officer Ben Sherman breaks police policy and becomes personally involved because he knows one of the victims.

Derailed
The body of a dead gang member is discovered; Detective Salinger and his daughter grow further apart; Detective Bryant asks Detective Adams to take in shooting witness Janila.
