Eigentlich wollte Stockinger mit seiner Frau Karin ein paar schöne Urlaubstage in den Bergen verbringen. Doch schon am ersten Tag stolpert er im Schnee über die Leiche Rupert Legerers. An Urlaub ist nicht mehr zu denken, die Ermittlungen beginnen. Stockis erster Verdächtiger ist der Öko-Bauer Simon, der vor kurzem eine handgreifliche Auseinandersetzung mit Legerer hatte. Stockinger ermittelt, daß Legerer Simon um seinen Gasthof gebracht hat. Für die Tatzeit hat Simon ein schwer nachprüfbares Alibi. Die Obduktion ergibt, daß Legerer mit einem Betäubungsgewehr angeschossen wurde. Förster Kronreif, der sich ebenfalls mit Legerer gestritten hat, hat Zugriff auf Betäubungsgewehre. Auch die Witwe ist kein unbeschriebenes Blatt.
