Early in the morning, sports agent Andrei Petrov was stabbed to death in an apartment in the center of St. Petersburg. The day before, he married Varvara Voronova. The newlyweds were getting ready for their honeymoon; Varvara left the apartment for a short time to visit a neighbor, and when she returned, she discovered her husband's corpse. The murder was committed with particular cruelty; Panov counted eleven stab wounds on the victim's body. The mother of the murdered Petrov believes that Andrei was killed for his professional activities; some of his football players were very unhappy with him. Meanwhile, Maria Sergeevna meets a new criminologist - Arkady Bashmakov.

A taxi driver from one of the St. Petersburg taxi companies recognizes a man in a dark hood and a medical mask covering his face in a video from the cameras of a neighboring entrance. The taxi driver picked him up near the crime scene. Kurochkin visits a beauty salon owned by Voronova. He learns from a cosmetologist that a couple of years ago an unpleasant incident occurred in their salon. The client received burns in a solarium, and in order to compensate for the damage in court, Varvara Voronova had to "bow to the monster." Shvetsova decides to find out what kind of monster we are talking about.

A burned car was found in an industrial zone on the outskirts of the city, with a charred corpse inside. The car was doused with gasoline and set on fire. Based on the engine number, it is established that the car belongs to Tatyana Veresova. Presumably the deceased is her husband Nikolai Veresov. Nikolai was engaged in apartment renovation, and recently he made money as a private driver. In the morning and evening I drove people from the microdistrict to the metro and back. Soon Kolonkova informs Shvetsova that there was another attack on the taxi driver, Grigory Vorobyov, who is now in the hospital. In the hospital elevator, Maria Sergeevna meets journalist Pavel Vasnetsov.

The investigation establishes that under the name of the deceased Nikolai Veresov, a native of the city of Yelets, Igor Titov, lived and worked. Unlike Veresov, Titov is not without sin; the man has been wanted for five years for the murder of livestock specialist Ignat Mirokhin. What if relatives or friends of the deceased tried to find and punish the killer? Korablev finds out that the only relatives of the murdered Mirokhin are his mother and brother - Ivan Mirokhin, who moved to the Northern capital two years ago and is now engaged in computer repairs. The operatives meet with the suspect's business partner and find out that Mirokhin disappeared without reaching his last client.
