Desperate to restart her acting career, Sam Swift shadows P.I. Eddie Valetik as research.

While working surveillance on a routine cheating spouse case, Sam and Eddie hear gunshots and race in to catch a Hollywood producer standing over the body of his mistress, clutching a smoking gun. It's case-closed as far as Eddie or any cop is concerned. But when the producer insists he's innocent, Sam agrees to take on his case, much to Eddie's chagrin. When their initial inquiries uncover that the producer's mistress isn't who she claimed to be, the pair are thrust into an investigation where not everything is as it seems.

When a popular nightclub owner and one of Eddie's old nemeses hires Eddie and Sam to track down his club's missing DJ, Eddie balks. Meanwhile, Sam remembers her party days at the club and clashes with Eddie over the case. As they dig deeper, Sam and Eddie learn that the missing young man was kidnapped and soon realize his abduction may be part of a plan to ignite a mob war that only they can stop.

Sam's ex-fiancé, Dylan, who dumped her live on national television, unexpectedly shows up asking for help after his laptop is stolen. Sam is reluctant to have anything to do with her old flame until she discovers something even more embarrassing may go public if it gets into the wrong hands. Faced with potential public humiliation, Sam, Eddie and Dylan race to find the laptop before the pair's most intimate moments become a viral sensation.

A terminally ill man hires Eddie and Sam to protect him from the very hitman he hired to make his death look like an accident. When he discovers he was misdiagnosed and is going to live, he fears for his life. Together, Eddie and Sam must keep him safe and in hiding long enough to find and stop his hired killer but soon learn that the hitman isn't the only one after him.

A bounty hunter from Eddie's past shows up at Valetik Investigations asking Eddie and Sam for help to find an escaped prisoner who killed a guard on his way to freedom.

When Sam and Eddie wake up in bed together, naked, and with no memory of the previous night, they can't help but wonder what did or didn't happen. But when they discover that the whole previous day is a complete blank, they begin to suspect that they were purposely drugged. The mystery deepens when, back at the office, a client they have no recollection of meeting returns to thank them for helping her recover her lost dog. Working with what little information they have, along with Berto and Monica's help, the pair attempt to reconstruct their lost day, only to discover that there's a lot more at stake than a missing dog. Meanwhile, Sam fears that while drugged she may have broken her sobriety.

Sam takes an unexpected journey into her past when she and Eddie are called on to investigate the seemingly accidental death of Ava Day, star of the ‘90s sitcom "All About Ava," which featured a 12-year-old Sam in her acting debut as Ava's little sister. But when the investigation uncovers dark truths about past events, Sam is forced to reconcile her childhood impressions with newly found facts in order to crack the case.

Called to a murder scene in the middle of the night, Sam and Eddie are shocked to find that the man who had just hired them to find his missing wife is the most recent victim of a serial killer. Knowing that their client's case must be related to his murder, Sam and Eddie race to uncover the twisted motives behind the killings with the desperate hope of finding his still-missing wife alive, putting the pair directly in the serial killer's crosshairs. Meanwhile, the investigation stirs up old wounds for Eddie surrounding his contentious departure from the LAPD.

Sam and Eddie travel to California's wine country to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a wheelchair-bound woman. Hired by the woman's son, the two quickly discover this is no ordinary missing person's case when the son reveals that he witnessed her otherworldly abduction. Despite Sam's enthusiasm for the bizarre story, both she and Eddie know there must be a more down-to-earth explanation for her disappearance. But when their investigation uncovers things even they can't explain, they can't help but wonder if the truth is out there.

When Detective Christine Rollins receives a frantic phone call from her younger brother asking for help, she assumes he's gotten himself into some kind of legal trouble again. But when he doesn't show up to meet her, she fears the worst. Not knowing what her brother was caught up in and hoping to avoid LAPD involvement, she turns to Sam and Eddie to help track him down. But when surveillance video shows Tyler stealing a luxury car, Christine learns that her once-wayward younger brother is back to his old ways and may be tied to something even worse. Meanwhile, Sam is dealing with family drama of her own.

Sam's friend implores Sam and Eddie to track down and recover a $50 million painting that was stolen from his auction house. If he can't get it back before the upcoming auction, his personal and professional reputation will be ruined. With the clock ticking, Sam and Eddie manage to identify a suspect who they believe was hired to steal the painting by a wealthy, corrupt businessman. With no hard evidence against them and time running out, Sam and Eddie devise a bold plan to get the painting back. Meanwhile, Sam's return to the dating scene tests her relationship with Eddie, leading to a surprising realization for both of them.

Still wrestling with the emotional reverberations of sleeping together, Sam and Eddie take a case involving a serial con man who victimizes wealthy women. In order to recover their client's money and jewelry without scaring off their suspect, the pair hatch a plan to con the con man using Sam as bait. But their plan goes awry when they discover they're not the only ones after the con man and they may be stepping into a trap themselves. As events unfold, Sam's future and Eddie's past collide to test their professional and personal relationship that could change everything.
