Taskmaster - Season 21

Taskmaster Greg Davies and his loyal assistant Alex Horne return with a fresh set of comics: Amy Gledhill, Armando Iannucci, Joanna Page, Joel Dommett and Kumail Nanjiani. In this opening episode, the five go hunting for a small creature, serve Greg his fruit and veggies and attempt to catch a golden T-shirt. But who will find all the oranges?

Armando Iannucci adopts a new persona before performing a daring stunt, Kumail Nanjiani grapples with some skittles while wearing oven gloves and Joanna Page attempts a tricky skill she hasn't tried since she was 12 years old. Elsewhere, Joel Dommett twirls a pretty umbrella and someone shouts about scrambled eggs to Amy Gledhill.

Alex Horne treats the contestants to a song, but not everyone appreciates it. Kumail Nanjiani embraces Amy Gledhill and Joel Dommett while they ask him questions about a horse. Joanna Page reveals her favourite childhood tipple, and Armando Iannucci goes for an ice cream.

Greg Davies judges the competence of five comics in tasks involving a cloche, a jar of dice and giant pencils. Joanna Page holds a sheep above her head, Amy Gledhill bursts a balloon in the lab and Kumail Nanjiani gives an ostrich some fangs. Elsewhere, Armando Iannucci and Joel Dommett both find unusual substitutes for sweets, while the normally infallible Alex Horne makes a rare error.

As the series reaches its halfway point, the Taskmaster is starting to know what to expect from his current crop of comics. But even he's surprised by the outrage Armando Iannucci causes with an ostrich, how Amy Gledhill struggles to remember the word for 'tube', and what Kumail Nanjiani does to time itself. Meanwhile, Joel Dommett has hours of fun with pots and pans, and Joanna Page and Alex Horne have an intimate conversation about guinea pigs while they wait for Armando to come and join them.

The heated contest continues as Armando Iannucci douses a coconut in vinegar while Joel Dommett slathers another in glue. Amy Gledhill gets creative with a series of spoons. Kumail Nanjiani impresses everyone with his extraordinarily strong jaw, and Little Alex Horne causes Joanna Page to scream in such terror that it sparks alarm in the local area.

Things become a little strange in the Taskmaster house as Armando Iannucci and Joanna Page contemplate an alien invasion, Joel Dommett joyfully slides socks onto cacti, Kumail Nanjiani is enchanted by smoky bubbles, and Amy Gledhill performs stand-up using items of clothing. Meanwhile, Greg Davies proves that he's a responsible master of his loveable pet, Little Alex Horne.

In a departure from the generally friendly tone of the show, Alex Horne and Joel Dommett trade insults across tasks. But name-calling is the least of the Taskmaster's worries as he witnesses Joanna Page doing something startling with a pineapple, Armando Iannucci doing something confusing with a nursery rhyme and Amy Gledhill doing something unexpected with balls of ice. Meanwhile, Kumail Nanjiani reveals something unusual about his body.

It's the penultimate episode of the series, and four contestants still harbour realistic hopes of becoming the 21st Taskmaster champion... while Joel Dommett's just having a really good time! Little Alex Horne is delighted to be put in charge of a flip-flop flinging machine, as well as recording events such as Amy Gledhill wringing out a poached egg, Kumail Nanjiani planking and Joanna Page doubting wind power. Meanwhile, Armando Iannucci shows why it's important not to curtail his nap time.

It's the grand final, and at the end of this episode, one of our five fabulous competitors will walk away with a trophy that looks very little like Greg Davies tucked under their arm. But before that, Amy Gledhill literally tears her hair out, Armando Iannucci plays the recorder while riding a trike with a plunger on his head, Joel Dommett sniffs the contents of a vacuum, Kumail Nanjiani mistreats a beloved resident of the Taskmaster house and Joanna Page lays waste to Little Alex Horne. Plus: the greatest pillow fights of all time!
