On the eve of Hogswatch, a cadre of villains known as the Auditors plot to destroy humanity's faith so they can assume control of the Discworld. They approach the head of the Assassin's Guild, who orders the innocent looking yet ruthless Mr. Teatime to kill the Hogfather. When the Hogfather goes missing, Death steps in to help out, and his adopted granddaughter, Susan, embarks on a rescue mission.

As Death and Albert deliver presents in the Hogfather's place, Mr. Teatime goes after the Tooth Fairy as another step towards controlling all human belief. Susan consults with the wizards at the Unseen University to work out what's happening on the most powerful magic night of the year. Will they be able to stop the Auditors' terrible plan?
