The Great British Winter - Season 1

Season 1

Episodes

Mountains
Ellie Harrison looks at British mountains as she reveals the surprises this terrain holds, from volcanoes to avalanches, frogs attempting to spawn to the small herds of reindeer in Britain. There's more than meets the eye to this landscape in winter.

Lakes
Ellie Harrison is in the iconic landscape of the Lake District, uncovering the perils of our changeable weather, finding out about an extremely rare Arctic winter resident, and enjoying a lakeside spectacle put on by a family of otters.

Forests
Ellie Harrison explores Britain's forests during the unforgiving winter months. From red squirrels to Eurasian beavers, charcoal creation to tree planting - winter is a busy time.

Estuaries
Ellie Harrison is in the UK's largest estuarine habitat in Morecambe Bay, Cumbria, as she reveals the lure the mud and reed beds have here for fishermen and migratory birds during Britain's harsh winters. She also happens across a very unusual and exclusive gentlemen's club of grey seals on Walney Island.

Islands
Ellie Harrison visits the Shetland Islands as she explores island life during Britain's most challenging season. From Viking practices to present-day crofting, and from rescued seal and otter pups to the mesmerising beauty of the Northern Lights, island life, it would seem, is far from dull in winter.
