Jessica Tierney, a popular actress, is being blackmailed by big-time gambler Jack Gorman who has pornographic photos of Jessica taken early in her career. She is forced to date basketball star Ed Stern until she threatens to go to the police with information that they are point shaving. However, the following day, a truck runs into her car, killing the driver and injuring Jessica's son, Steve.
