The Locator follows Troy Dunn, a professional with over 16 years of experience of connecting people, on intense and emotionally-charged journeys to reunite "half the world with the other half" and bring closure to those seeking it.

In each episode, Troy selects one "angel" case and sets out on a quest to locate the individual. Cases featured include stories of adoption, abducted children, dire medical situations involving terminal illnesses, abandonment and more. Each case is handled by experienced professionals who include Troy, his team of private investigators, detectives, genealogists, law enforcement officials, and psychics.
