The Making of a Pro QB

The Making of a Pro QB (2016)

EndedSports show

There is nothing top prospects won't do in order to get ahead of the competition for the NFL Draft. Up to and including quarterbacks stuffing their hands in buckets of rice to strengthen their arms. George Whitfield, noted quarterback guru and many of many pro day brooms, is featured on Making of a Pro QB -- airing on CBS Sports Network on Monday, April 11 at 10 p.m. -- and has draft prospects Connor Cook and Stephen Rivers working their hands through buckets of rice in order to get better at being quarterbacks.

Say that out loud and it makes zero sense. But watch the clip above and you start to realize how it does hold some logic. For starters, you need to have strong hands to be a quarterback. You need to have your hand strength while being attacked too. The bucket-of-rice exercise increases the strength -- or at least shows the strength -- and also works the forearm muscles. It sounds goofy, but it looks terrifying when you actually see it in progress. And you really start to realize how difficult the life of a quarterback prospect can be.
