Trevor McDonald sets out on an epic journey through the heartland of the USA following the course of its most famous and important river - the Mississippi. He begins in the Deep South and discovers how the legacy from the days of slavery still plays a part in life there today. He attends a New Orleans jazz funeral and makes a poignant visit to some rare surviving plantation slave quarters.
