As assistant to an Australian Government Minister, Murray Whelan is often called upon to conduct special investigations that threaten the political reputation of his boss. With his subtle nature and his clumsy non-detective ways, he places himself into dangerous and compromising situations never realizing his life is in danger - but he is not to be underestimated, he is smarter than he appears.
