While investigating the theft of a friend's Thoroughbred before a big race, Wyatt learns that the animal is lame and hasn't raced in months.

The carnival is invaded by bikers trying to liberate one of their members---a prisoner on a work-furlough program.

Wyatt tries to help an old friend, a down-and-out rodeo cowboy who's being forced into drug running by smugglers who have kidnapped his ex-wife and daughter.
