On the way to the carpenter's house, Ling Jiushi noticed that every household in the village had a well. Originally, these wells were the entrances to the caves dug to avoid wolf disasters. But now a monster had emerged, so they had no choice but to seal up the wellheads. To make coffins, the carpenter asked everyone to go up the mountain to cut down trees. The innkeeper reminded the three of them that carrying the trees together would save their strength. Unexpectedly, this move attracted the attack of a female monster. Ruan Baijie asked everyone to change to the method of dragging the trees instead, and finally they returned to the village safely. Then the innkeeper suggested that everyone should enter the ancestral hall in the village one by one to pay their respects. Ling and Ruan went in and out together and managed to escape disaster.
