After Nick is stopped for a traffic infraction in a small Maine town, he protests the unfairness of the ticket and elects to spend a day in jail spoiling Nora's plans for a Canadian vacation. The day in town turns bizarre when the residents of the town disappear.

The recently-paroled Blondie Collins becomes Nick's responsibility after she saves Nick's life.

Nora recieves a crusie ticket and a diamond bracelet after being selected for jury duty then drives the rest of the jury up the wall.

Nick hires a new servant who is good at his household jobs but Nitro Noonan has a checkered past that he tries to resist.
