The show is set in the year 2089 where it is widely accepted by the humans to be controlled by the Tripods with "caps", attached to a child's head, when it turns 14. Will and Henry are trying to escape from being capped and find a promised place where it is told that free men are fighting the machines.

Destination X sees a group of contestants go on the road trip of a lifetime but they have no idea of their location. In order to win, they must figure out their mystery locations. At the end of each episode, the contestant who places an X on a map furthest from the actual location packs their bags. The first participant to reach Destination X will be crowned the winner.

The winner takes over the loser's square, gaining valuable ground as they expand their territory, while the loser exits the game. The winner must then choose – do they continue on and attempt to secure another square? Or do they let The Floor choose a new challenger?
