Het stond al jaren op Toms verlanglijstje, maar echt realistisch leek het niet. Lijnpiloten krijgen een jarenlange opleiding voor ze mogen vliegen. Zelf achter de stuurknuppel van een Boeing kruipen leek echt onmogelijk. Maar André Berger, de hoofdinstructeur van Jetair, herleidde de standaardopleiding tot de essentie.
Hij leerde Tom alleen om in perfecte omstandigheden op te stijgen en te landen met een Boeing 737. André zit de hele tijd naast Tom, maar raakt de stuurknuppel niet aan. Hij grijpt enkel in als het fout zou gaan. Een simpel plan, maar wel nog altijd zeer ambitieus. Niemand ter wereld heeft het Tom ooit voorgedaan. Niemand heeft ooit op een maand tijd leren vliegen met een Boeing.
Gemakkelijk was het nooit natuurlijk, en Tom zal niet zo vlug opnieuw achter een stuurknuppel kruipen.
